7 years ago tonight

I headed into L&D at 35.6 weeks pregnant thinking my water was leaking only to find out that I want don't leaking and I was only 1 CM dilated! Not bad for my track record ;) lol. The Dr on call that night did not want me leaving without him taking a peek at me because of the lovely track record so asked the nurses to ask me to stay an extra hour (he was dong a C section at the time). We had no problems sticking around because I know my track record to and was not feeling right about going home anyway.

About an hour later a YOUNG resident Dr comes in and decides he should check me one last time before sending me home. Sure enough I was 5 CM (not 1 contraction btw, turns out when the nurse checked me she set me into labor) and baby was breech. Not a huge deal because I was going to have a section anyway :) Time to meet my baby boy was only minutes away, or so we thought!

We were sent to the delivery room (while I was wheeled there in fear my boy would fall out lol). Anesthesiologist came in to do my epi and it did not take. He tried 8 times and all we got was me feeling like I was being lite on fire :( I will NEVER forget the pain :s At 7:00 am they called my O.B to find out what to do next, he was coming in and was going to put me under. I was freaking out and poor Dave was stuck outside the O.R. Our anesthesiologist figured he would give it 1 more shot (going in sideways) and sure enough it took :) Owen Joseph was born at 7:30 weighing 6lbs 6oz and was 19 3/4 inches long! A big boy for 36 weeks (to the day) gestation.

At about 8 am I finally got to see him for the first time, because I had gestational diabetes they whisked him away to be looked at by the NICU to make sure his sugars were good (they were) while they fixed me up. He was sooo sweet and BIG compared to his twin sisters;) he was double Jenna's birth weight! But there seemed to be a problem. He was blue VERY blue around his mouth. I was a bit worried (ok HUGELY worried) after going through everything with the girls I was on edge. The nurse had the NICU check him over again and everything seemed to be good.

A few hours later he was still quite dusky and my nurse was getting worried so she again brought him down to the NICU and asked them to keep him a few hours to make sure he was ok. Thankfully they did because he started having feeding issues and he had a heart murmur (this is where the duskiness was comming from). He was severely tongue tied (this was the reason for the feeding issues) and needed tube feedings to get his weight back up and help with his severe jaundice. After 4 days in the NICU our little man was able to come home. We had daily visits for blood work everyday for 2 weeks but other than that he was perfect! Thankfully none of his "health issues" at birth were to severe and he recovered well at home :) I can not believe it has been 7 years since my Owie Monkey blessed our family :) He is such a smart and happy little man and he is super excited to start Grade 2 in the fall! Happy Birthday little Man <3
